Hi,
This is a unique problem which i am facing. I am an absolute novice in the matter of server maintainence,
I am trying to do a backup and restore for the Cyn.in site. Now I have done it 1 time when it was successful. But now I am facing issues. When making the installation the server was taking an IP (say 192.168.0.7) which it took when the first time I configured it. But on subsequent installation it took some other IP(say 192.168.0.8). I changed the IP from 8 to 7 and copied the backup copy of the Data.fs file to /home/cynin/buildout/var/filestorage. And tried to login. But the login page itself isn't coming. The login page says

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /acl_users/credentials_cookie_auth/require_login.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) PHP/5.2.6-1+lenny4 with Suhosin-Patch mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.0 Server at 192.168.0.109 Port 80

I tried restarting the apache. I don't know how to restart the apache or the zope instance for that matter. I am complete novice for those matters :(. Can somebody give me a link or something, which has some info regarding the same?

Hmm.... it looks like your cyn.in site name might be different between the 2 instances. See if you can get the ZMI screen at http://<your site domain or IP>:8080/manage

Once you login to that (default login/pass is admin/secret) check that your Cyn.in site name *is* actually "cynin". If not, you're going to have change the file at /etc/apache2/conf.d/cynin to remap to the correct site name.

It doesn't really matter what IP the server is running at, actually, as long as you can access it. Also, always remember to restart your cyn.in service (or restart the whole server machine should also work) when you replace the Data.fs file.

Restarting the zope instance (in the case of Cyn.in ISO CD installation, this is a daemon service that runs at startup) you can run /etc/init.d/cynin restart. There's also a service management UI that can be used from webmin (at https 10000 port) to do the same, if you're more comfortable with doing it from UI.

If you're not really comfortable managing linux servers - I would recommend taking on Cynapse Support services for your appliance, or even go for SaaS hosting option. Having a well managed system is critical for production sites, and there are some regular maintenance tasks like backup that really should be set up properly to be safe.

I am not getting even the manage option in the site. That apart I am getting a 502 proxy error.

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /manage.

This is the error in the browser while trying to access http://<IP>/manage

http://<IP>:8080/manage

You are trying the wrong url. Note the port 8080 in the url above.

If you're not getting the ZMI screen at port 8080, then there's something really wrong. You could possibly have done something wrong during your IP address changing.

Try looking at /home/cynin/buildout/var/logs to see if you can figure out start/stop errors.
Also, please post the exact, errors that you're getting in full - it helps us figure out what went wrong.

And another thing is that I have done it one time... So I can't understand why it is not working the second time. I tried to repeat the procedure.. But that isn't working

No Errors while starting or stopping the ZMI. I checked all the logs in /home/cynin/buildout/var/logs, There is no single line of error. I think apache is giving a problem somewhere.

I am getting the WEBMIN interface even now. Only the site login page, or for that matter event the manage site isn't available.
All I did was replace Data.fs

Kashi, I'm pretty sure you really are trying the wrong URL, please try it with port http://<IP>:8080 (note the port, 8080), as shown above, and you'll get the ZMI interface and then be able to determine whether the site is named "cynin" or not.

Now dhiraj... Another thing I wanted to ask was the /etc/apache2/conf.d/cynin, I did not find this file :(.

Hi guys,

I am having exactly the same problem. this are the steps I did yesterday.
I install the community edition. everything was fine in the installation, up and running.
then I installed Active Directory support following the instructions and it worked perfectly.
the day after I can not simply connect , I receive the proxy error too
Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /acl_users/credentials_cookie_auth/require_login.

the only _weird_ thing I did was to reserve a specific IP address for the machine on the DHCP server.

for the manage area I can log in but it is extremely slow, i dont understand why...
